You need to invest in soundproofing, or do you live in one of those traditional paper wall houses?

Seriously, how do you practice? With headphones? Man, that sucks!

Well, luckily a few years ago we moved to a concrete walled apartment, so the electric acoustic style is now OK <phew>

...and the very BEST investment gear-wise I have ever made (funded by a pedal cull) is the KOCH Dummy Box.

I swear this produces a much better sound than most of the miked YouTube amp demos out there. It really is excellent, and being passive its a take anywhere box of magic. So when I record I can put any Tube amp through it then to the PC without any external amplifed noise - just headphones, its really an amazing bit of kit!! :D

So no digital effects or processing required, I can run all my beloved BOSS floor pedals - yippie! *and get a nice natural amp breakup as you can crank them all you wish ...in silence

The only snag is the sound is not the same as say taking the amps out themselves, as their speakers impart a great deal of character naturally. Here the KOCHs amp emulation does the work - well I might add - but different. Thus when attempting to devise a pedalboard or a should-I-keep-it? new pedal scenario Im using a lot of guesswork! An SD-1 for example sounds rather thin and hollow.

70% of my pedals have never been heard live and loud in front of a blazing amp though :(

Nothing really beats standing in front of the amp - especially with a fuzz... ;)
