Forum Spam

Postby StompBoxZone » Mon Jan 16, 2012 6:49 pm

Please do not reply to spam posts

If you see someone spamming the forum please use the 'Report this post' button next to the 'Quote' button on each post. This will let the moderators know about the offending posts so they can be dealt with accordingly.

Replying to spam posts stops us from using various automated cleanup tools we have at our disposal.

Replying isn't going to boost your post count as those posts will be deleted, by hand.

I am not sure if there is a setting, but in other forums my first post on the site had to be approved buy a moderator. Is that something we have here

No, but we are managing to catch most of the spam pretty quickly without too much hassle.
There are other measures in place to automatically prevent spam aswell.
I'm sure Skugga will review how we deal with spam as time goes by.

At the moment the best thing members can do is hit the report button for posts they think are spam.

We have the functionality. But turning it on will actually create more work at the moment. The number of spammers that get through per day is less than the average number of new posts.

Another sweep of spam coming through right now. Is this normal for a forum site? I've never seen spammers on any other site as much as I've seen it on the old BA forum and now it's showing up here. They must be getting over from Bossarea.com .

Did Bossarea upset some hackers?! Is this why Bossarea is quiet and Dr. BoB is absent?! Are they both locked up in an asylum somewhere muttering something about spam? And only BossArea has some limited monthly internet access in between medication breaks?!?

IS SKUGGA NEXT!?!?!

no seriously, wtf can we do about the nonsense? Because I'm sure Skugga is already considering leaving his day job to delete spammers
