Searching pedal designations on the site

Searching pedal designations on the site

Postby sclitheroe » Thu Aug 09, 2012 9:29 am

Is there a minimum number of characters for searching on the forum?

I noticed you can't search on pedal designations - for example, searching for BD-2 won't return any results (but searching for Blues Driver will...)

Is that something that could be tweaked? Seems like it would be valuable to be able to search for discussions/posts on specific pedals by designation, since that's usually how we refer to them.

Nah, BD-2 isn't found in any topics or posts, it's odd.

I find it easier to use Google than the site's own search engine.

e.g. type: "bd-2" site:Stompboxzone.com into Google.

It's a limitation of the board software, a fairly common limitation for forum software in general.

So for 'DS-1' it sees 'DS' and '1', both of which are less than 3 characters. If you search for 'DS1' you get plenty of results.

I don't think there's much that can be done about it it's fairly standard for search filtering, but I'll look into it.

When you're using the standard search box it just tells you nothing was found, if you go into 'Advanced search' and change the option to 'Search for any terms' it gives more information about why the search didn't go through.

Cool - I wasn't expecting it to consider - punctuation, that explains it.
